Abstract

25,918. Taylor, F. Dec. 1. Circular knitting-machines.-Plain tubular fabric with spliced and slackened portions having a fashioned appearance is obtained by varying the elevation of the needle cylinders during the production of ordinary work, and by shifting the stitch cams when knitting spliced fabric. The rotary cylinder a of a multi-feed machine provided with sinkers as described in Specifications No. 237, A.D. 1900, and No. 20,540, A.D. 1901, is supported by a coarsely-threaded ring g, which is under automatic control and can be turned through a small angle by means of an arm g<2>, the cylinders being thus raised or lowered. The stitch-cams e are slid ably mounted in the stationary shell d, and attached to each is a lug e<1> which is depressed by the action of an arm j<1> of a vertical shaft j<2> on a pivoted wedge piece j resting on one of the lugs e<1>. The lower arm j<3> is actuated by contact with an arm k the roller k<2> of which runs on cams attached to the cylinder a. The shaft j<2> is raised or lowered to bring the roller on to the cams l<2> or l<1> during intermittent splicing, while during all-round splicing the roller is held clear of the cams. The stitch cams may be connected together, or may be independently operated.
