It will be obvious tothose skilled in the art that various mechanical embodiments of the invention are possible and'I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the exact arrangement and construction shown.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:- 1
1. In combination with a knitting machine embodying a-vertical series of needles a horizontal series of needles and means for automatically actuating the vertical series of needles to produce a slack course, devices for actuating the horizontal needles to assist in producing the slack course 2. In combination with a knitting ma chine embodying a horizontal series of needles, means for elevating the threadengaging ends of said needles to produce a slack course.
3. In combination with a knitting machine, embodyi means for coinci ently separating the needles to produce a'slack course, these means embodying devices whereby both series of needles are actuated in opposite directions simultaneously.
4. The combination in aknitting machine of the character described, of a cylinder, c linder needles, dial needles, with means for lit ting the dial needles independently of I the dial to form a slack course, substantially as described.
5. The combination in a knitting ma; chine of the character described, of the cylinder needles, the dialneedles, means for actuating both the cylinder needles and the dial needles to 'producea slack course, substantially as described.
6. The combination in a knitting machine of the character described, of a cam 'cylinder,- needle cylinder, needles therein,
dial, dial needles, a cam carried by the cam cylinder arranged to pass under the dial needles and lift them, and means for throwing the cam into and out of position, substantially as described. I
