Abstract

Act, 1907.] Clutches. - Relales to Weston plate frictionclutches of the Hele-Shaw type. The casing U, Figs. 1 and 3, is made of sheet metal, and is indented to form recesses C<2> to fit recesses e in an internal drum E which form feathers for the clutch plates e<2>. The drum C, Fig. 9, may be formed in a number of separate segments secured to the casing by rivets, or the feathers may be formed in the casing itself. The clutch is engaged by a spring g, beadng on a sheet-steel preeser plate F and adjusted by a screwed sleeve D. In disengaging, the fixed brake cone H is brought into engagement with a cone a' on the driven shaft A. The plates e', b<1>, Fig. 7, are of steel, one series being provided with surfaces of softer metal, such as bronze which may be electrically deposited.
