Detachable wheels ; hubs.-Relates to readily detachable wheels of the kind in which an outer hub part engages an inner permanent hub fitted with ball bearings. such as described in Specifications No. 21,088, A.D. 1906, No. 6511, A.D. 1907, Nos. 7530 and 13,934, A.D. 1908, and Nos. 8862 and 9033, A.D. 1909. According to the present invention, the outer hub is directly supported by conical or tapered surfaces formed at or near the ends. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the inner ends of the hub parts are formed with conical surfaces p, n. The other end of the outer part a is formed with a conical part c engaging a similar surface d on the locking-nut e. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the inner conical surfaces are replaced by tapered dogs q, r which are formed on the two parts and engage with an equivalent centring effect. Fig. 4 shows a form in which the conical surface c is formed on a separate part u held by the spokes b. The conical surface d may be formed on a part seated either on a parallel part of the permanent hub g or on a parallel part of the locking-ring. Fig. 8 shows a form in which the conical parts are arranged with their larger diameters one towards the other, and in which the driving-axle m, formed with an enlarged end engaging the permanent hub, is adapted after removal of the cap s to be withdrawn through the permanent hub, leaving the wheel intact.
