Abstract
21,134. Willis, P. R. J., [Bastel, J. F., and Baumgartner, J. F.]. Oct. 7. Lubricating ; axle-caps.-An axle-box for wheel hubs is provided with an enlarged inner end 3, in which are made two annular grooves 5, 6 registering with two similar grooves 18, 19 formed in a collar on the axle, and is secured by one or more set-screws 8 projecting into the grooves on the axle. The outer end of the axle box is flared, and undulating longitudinal grooves are formed on the axle and box to facilitate the distribution of the lubricant, which is contained in a cap 11 screwed on the axle-box and provided with a removable plug 13. A wooden or metal hub may be used, the box being screwed into it ; or the hub and box may be made integral.
