21,969. Rutherford, E. J. Y., and Ross, C. A. Oct. 17. Rotary or oscillating disk valves; sliding valves.- A sliding throttle valve b is combined with a small by-pass valve c controlling a separate passage h<1> which, in operation, is opened before the larger valve is moved. For this purpose the shank of the small valve is fitted without any lateral freedom in a hole in the actuating-plate G, and the shank of the large valve is fitted in an elongated hole. The plate G is fixed to the spindle of an operating-lever. The upper end of the spindle is coned and bears upon a coned recess to form a steam-tight joint. The valves may be arranged for straightline motion.
