Abstract
26,901. Tetlow, C. E. Dec. 11. Lift valves.-A valve for regulating the amounts of steam passed direct to an engine and by-passed through a superheater is shown in Fig. 5. The spindle n has two valves p, q fast upon it and a looselysupported valve r at its lower end which controls the inlet to the superheater. The position of the valve q on the spindle is such that its distance from its seating t is equal to twice the lift necessary to open the valve p fully. After the valve p has been fully opened, any further movement of the valve spindle causes a head v to engage with an extension r<1> of the valve r and so opens the passage to the superheater, the valve q throttling the straight-through steam supply. In the extreme position when the valve q is seated, the valve r is fully open.
