Abstract

20,428. Saunders, S. E. Sept. 29. Hulls; lubricating.-In order to reduce the violent rise and fall of the fore part of high-speed vessels in rough weather, and consequent foundering, a constant supply of air is directed by means of a cowl D into a bellows-shaped chamber A, extended by springs. An air valve is fitted in the upper part of the cowl shaft compelling the air when compressed by the movement of the vessel to pass out through the pipes E to the undersurface of the hull. The sides of the vessel preferably project below the bottom in the form of side keels to retain the air. The invention is stated to be specially applicable to hydroplane vessels.
