Abstract
14,198. Albion Motor Car Co., and Murray, T. B. July 4. Gas or explosive-vapour engines, carburetting in, and governing and regulating speed and power. In spray arburettors having supplementary air and mixture throttle valves controlled simultaneously, and an additional valve to regulate the whole or a part of the air supply to the supplementary air valve, the conjointly operated air and mixture throttle valves are controlled by a governor through a floating lever device, such as that described in Specification No. 9251, A.D. 1902, and the additional air valve is controlled directly by the governor. In the carburettor shown, air is drawn in through a valve K, and the rich mixture passes through a jacketed pipe A<2> heated by hot water or by hot gases. The passage of the mixture and of the supplementary air supply to a chamber B<1> is controlled by throttle valves B, C<1>, mounted on the same spindle C<2>. The supplementary air supply is also controlled by a throttle valve H and a hit-and-miss valve J. The valve J, which is held closed for starting, serves for weather and temperature adjustment of the mixture ; it is normally kept open by a spring, and admits sufficient air when the engine is running at the lowest speed. The valves B, C' are controlled by a governor, a hand-lever D<5>, and a floating-lever D<4>, and the valve H is connected directly to the governor by a link H<2> and bell-crank lever H<3>. The valves B, C' (or their casings if cylindrical valves are used) and the valve H are shaped so as to give, m their various positions, the desired proportions of air and mixture, and an adjustable by-pass L is provided for the mixture. The valves B, C' may be controlled independently of the governor by means of the rocking-shaft G'. According to the Provisional Specification, the governorcontrolled valve H may be used in any carburettor in which a rich mixture is diluted with air, in order to control the amount of air reaching the supplementary air valve.
