4881. Brett, B., and Brett, J. March 4. Spray burners. -Relates to liquid-fuel furnace fittings in which oil, tar, creosote, &c. is sprayed by compressed air. The fuel in the burner 14 is expelled in a thin film from between a flat valve 17 and its seating 15, and is carried by the air from a pipe 28 against a screw or fan 26, which is rapidly rotated -by the air blast. The mixture of spray and air then passes into a fireclay lined chamber 9, in which the combustion begins. The fan is preferably mounted on an extension of a regulating-spindle 19. When heavy fuel is to be burned, the seating 15 is made with knife-edges.
