27,115. Wille, P. Dec. 7. Pistons of internal-combustion engines, pumps, compressors, &c. are constructed to permit adjustment of the packing without the removal of the piston from the cylinder. The packing consists of a compressible material, such as asbestos or steel wool, surrounded by a thin metal band. The packing may be adjusted by an ordinary cover-plate, by a cover-plate 23 adjustable by a bolt 24, Fig. 3, or by a gland 20, Fig. 2, screwing on to the body of the piston.
