Abstract

6355. Weiss, C. June 20, 1906, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Motor-velocipedes; driving-mechanism. - In an epicyclic two-speed gearing adapted for the rearwheel hubs of motor-velocipedes &c., bearings are arranged so that the epicylic gear pinions may be adjusted independently of the main-axle bearings. A sleeve b, rotatably mounted with the main bearings c, d upon the axle a, carries a motor-driven wheel e, to which is attached a bevel-pinion f driving one or more planet-pinions h carried by the wheel hub o and gearing in turn with a bevelpinion g. The pinion g may be clutched to the sleeve b, so that the hub and gear rotate as a whole, or it may be held stationary by means of a brake band applied to its grooved periphery k, in which case the pinion or pinions h roll thereon and the hub o revolves at a reduced speed. The epicyclic gear is provided with ball bearings m, l, i which may be simultaneously adjusted independently of the main bearings c, d.
