Abstract

666,549. Motor vehicles. AGHNIDES, E. Dec. 23, 1947 [Aug. 13; 1941], No. 4889/51. Divided out of 666,483. Classes 79(i), 79(ii) and 79(iii) A vehicle comprises rotary propelling side members, the outer. surfaces of which are substantially hemispherical, a body member between the side members, a motor adapted to drive the side members and means for controlling rotation of the side members independently of each other to steer the vehicle. As shown the vehicle comprises the hemispherical propelling members 2, 3 having ground engaging treads 5 and rotatably mounted on an axle 6, each member having an annular gear ring 9 engaged by gears 11, 12 mounted on a carrier 14. The carter 14 is enclosed in the body member 4 and carries a platform 7 on which is mounted a driver's seat 16 a window 8 being provided in the body member 4. The gears 12. are driven from the motor M through a differential, the output shafts of which carry brake drums 17, 18. The brake drums are controlled either as shown in Fig. 4 by independently operable pedals 19, 20 or as shown in Fig. 3 (not shown) by a steering Wheel and column, the drop arm of which controlling one or other of the brakes depending on its direction of motion.
