2755. Morris, F. P. Feb. 4. Wrenches of the alligator type have means whereby the inclined toothed jaws 7, 13 automatically adjust themselves to suit the size of the body to be gripped. Two jaw handles 5, 6 have recesses 11, 9 respectively, and are pivotally half-lapped together by a headed stud 14. The recess 9 is inclined to the axis of the handle 6 and has portions A at right-angles to the axis, as shown in Fig. 3. The handle 5 has a lateral inclined portion 10, in which is formed the recess 11 and a slot 12 for the stud 14, as shown in Fig. 4. When the sides of the portion 10 are in contact with the portions A, the jaws are inclined to each other, and movement of the rearward ends of the handles towards each other reduces the angle between the jaws and adapts the wrench for use in connexion with smaller bodies. The slot 12 allows the jaws 7, 13 to be brought towards and away from each other for further adjustment.
