Cyanides.-A mixture of barium cyanide and cyanamide, such as is obtained by Margueritte and Sourdeval's process of producing barium cyanide by heating together carbonaceous materials and barium oxide or barium carbonate, has its cyanamide converted into cyanide by treatment, at a temperature below 1200‹ C., with a current of a gas containing carbon compounds other than carbon dioxide, e.g. acetylene or generator gas free from carbon dioxide. The passage of the current of gas is continued during the cooling-process. Specification No. 16,049, A.D. 1890, is referred to.
