Abstract

Spring wheels.- A wheel for motor and other road or railway vehiflea has feet, in the form of plungers, supported in sleeves pivoted between two disks attached to the h u b, the plungers being kept extended by a resilient body. The disks a, b are attached to the hub c, and carry sleeves f by means of pivots e. Fixed to the pistons or plungers g, which have tread surfaces h and slide in the sleeves f, are heads i, which rest on a pneumatic or other tube or tubes l, a band m of leather being interposed. To obviate nipping the resilient body, the heads i are formed with projections j and indents k, Fig. 3. The plungers g are made hollow to hold lubricant. Projections on the disks a, b form stops to the sleeves f. By means ot the nuts q on the pivots e, the disks a, b are held together, but further connexion may be made through the cross-pieces p, placed so as to close the aperture between adjacent sleeves, Figs. 1 and 2. The flange a may be in two parts a, a<*>. Frictional contact between the surfaces of the sleeves, or coupling together by means of bands or wires, may be used to provide for con- - certed movement of the sleeves. When used for railway vehicles, the tread is flanged and lateral strength is provided by extension of the disk or by carrying a projection from the tread up to the disks. In a modification, the plungers compress air in cylinders, the separate air tube being dispensed with.
