14,551. Smith, W. T. June 26. Tyres, elastic other than pneumatic.-Relates to tyres of the type described in Specifications Nos. 10,500 and 15,710, A.D. 1905. An inextensible, non-elastic but flexible tread band A of canvas, cord, &c. is supported in tension over an elastic tyre B. The tread is protected by metal plates C and the ring B may be held in compression by a hoop D. The band A may be built up on a collapsible former and having been fitted over the tyre B the latter is expanded by the ring D ; or the band A may be expanded by bolting to a hoop of larger diameter, slipped over and vulcanized to the tyre B. The hoop is then removed and the protector plates C bolted through, preferably to inner clamping-plates E. The plates E are preferably formed with inturned lips. In modifications, the plates C are dispensed with, the band A, or a layer of hard rubber thereon, forming the tread.
