Screw unions. - To couple a flexible or other pipe 2 with a piece 4, an internally c o n i - cal ring 1 is first slipped over the end of the pipe; the externally conical end of the piece 4, with the screwed collar 7 in position, is then forced into the pipe 2. The nut 7 is screwed up, and by means of the right and left banded threads 6, 3 the two conical surfaces travel in opposite directions and grip the pipe. The surfaces of the cones next the pipe 2 may be grooved. According to the Provisional Specification other methods of drawing up the cones may be used
