Abstract

1077. Otis Elevator Co., [Otis Elevator Co.]. Jan. 15. ' Rope railways and tramways.-Comprises means for overcoming the inertia of a car or the like and its load with a lessened initial pull on the hoisting or traction cable, and is described with reference to a furnace hoist, Fig. 1, in which the hoisting-cables C pass round sheaves on the wheeled receptacle B. The ends of the cable are connected by a cross-bar c which rests against stops a<3>. The receptacle therefore commences to travel with half the speed of the hoisting-cable, but, on reaching the stops a<3>, the rod c is caught up by hooks c<2> and the cable and receptacle travel together. In another. arrangement, Fig. 4, the receptacle is first hoisted relatively to its trolly into the position shown in dotted lines, and the two parts then travel together. In another form, the trolly is first hoisted, the receptacle meanwhile resting upon a stop.
