Abstract

5037. Jardine, J. April 1. Overhead travellers and transporters.- Relates to cranes in which the load is carried by a trolly running on an inclined path on the jib, and consists in means for causing the load to travel horizontally. In one form of the invention, Fig. 1, the hoisting-cable C passes from the hoisting-drum B over a pulley F on the trolly D, under the fall-block, over a second pulley F<1> on the trolly, and thence over a pulley H at the summit of the incline to a, compensating-drttm A, which operates independently of the hoisting-drum and is of such a diameter as to pay out sufficient rope to traverse the load horizontally as the trolly ascends. The trolly is moved by a rope E and a drum A', either on the same shaft as the drum A or operated by gear, ropes, or their equivalent having connexion with the movements of the trolly. In another form, Fig. 3, one end of the hoisting-cable c is attached to the trolly, and the cable is carried under the fall-block g, over a pulley f on the trolly, and thence over a pulley h at the summit to the hoisting-drum B. The trolly is moved by a rope and drum A<1> as shown in Fig. 1, and in each case the trolly may be balanced separately.
