Abstract
21,758. Campbell, J. Sept. 22. Cranes, travelling. Consists of an improvement on the invention described in Specification No. 23,280, A.D. 1896. The car A has wheels a adapted to run on the rails a<1> of the trestles A', and has a long boom B mounted upon it having a longitudinal slot and rails to receive the trolley C from which the shovel E is suspended. The trolley is provided with sheaves c<5>, c<6> for the shovel lifting and lowering rope e and closing and opening rope e<1>, the second sheave being in use when the trolley is to the left of the car, as shown, and the first in use when the trolley is to the right. The rope e passes between the sheaves e', e<3> at the top of the tower E', over another sheave, not shown, to a winding-drum on the shovel-operating engine, and the rope e' is similarly arranged. The guy rope G passes round pulleys g, g<1> and a pulley attached to the weight g', and is secured near the top of the tower. When the trolley is to the left side of the car, the rope G passes over a roll g<3>. One section c<2> of the trolley-operating rope extends from the trolley to the end b<3> of the boom, round the sheave b<4> to a sheave near the centre of the boom, and thence to the trolley engine. The rope c<3> is similarly connected to the other end of the trolley. The car A may have a hopper H for discharging into the railway vehicle H<1>.
