Abstract

26,692. Albert, C. A. J. June 7, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Stuffing-boxes and the like.-An oil-economizing system comprises means for catching and purifying waste lubricating-oil from steam-engine stuffing- boxes, &c., and for redistributing the purified oil to the various parts of the machine. The oil is caught by means of a plate 1, and is transported from the receptacle 2, into which it drains by means of an injector 6 controlled by a float 10. A pipe 37 is provided for the introduction of fresh pil into the system from a barrel 36, The oil then enters a purifier, preferably of the construction shown in Fig. 3, where it passes successively through a removable filter 13, using wicks 15 for discharging purposes, a chamber 11 where the oil is heated to 40-55‹ C., filters 19, 20, a pipe 24, and a chamber 17 where it is washed with salt solution at 50-65‹ C., finally passing through a filter 21 into a chamber which is provided with distributing- mechanisms 30. A float 38 actuates an electric bell when the chamber 11 is sufficiently full of oil. The Specification in the original form as published under the Act of 1901 describes also a distributing- mechanism, Fig. 3<a>, wherein a rotating piece g is held against a stationary piece in such a way that the passages l, come into register once in every revolution and thus provide a constant feed. This subject-matter does not appear in the Complete Specification as accepted,
