Abstract
23,596. Bentall, E. E., and Bingham, G. C. Nov. 16. Shafts.-Built-up crank-shafts for motive power engines and other purposes are constructed with cranked end parts having extended crank-pins preferably tapered and adapted to fit into intermediate connecting blocks or frames. Figs. 1 and 2 show a three-throw crank-shaft. The crank-pins c of the end parts a are secured to the intermediate blocks d which are further connected either by a straight tapered crank-pin f or, in a modification, by a cranked piece, one end of which is in line with the shaft ends a. An intermediate double crank may be also connected to the blocks d to form a fourthrow crank, the part between the crank-pins being in line with the shaft ends. By combining or duplicating the parts, crank-shafts of more than four-throw may be constructed.
