Abstract
16,564. Scott, G. M. Aug. 15. Windows; window holders.-Relates to sliding sashes, balanced by spring pinions, mounted behind the pulley stiles engaging with racks on the sash stiles. The pinion 5, Fig. 2, engages with a rack 17 and is locked to hold the sash in any position by means of a locking-lever 10, pivoted at 11, and also pivoted to a spindle carrying a push-button 14 by which it can be released against the action of a spring. To maintain each rack and pinion in engagement, a bracket case 20 is attached to the upper edge of each sash stile on the opposite side of the sash to the pinion, this case being provided with inclined faces 22 which mate with inclined faces 23 of a roller bracket 24, which is forced downwards by a spring 26. The inclined faces 22, 23 cause the roller of the bracket 24 to be forced out into engagement with the pulley stile, thus keeping the rack on the opposite side in close engagement with its pinion.
