3652. Collins, J. Feb. 13. Windows; window holders.-Sliding sashes are fitted with racks, pinions, and r e t a i n i n g catches. Small s a s h e s have no weights or spring balances. The pinions c, Figs. 1 and 3, are attached to the window frame, and take into racks on the sash stile, or vice versÔ. Stops g, h are forced by springs into the teeth of the pinions, but these may be removed by handles e. Instead of these stops, pawls may engage the pinion, or holes or notches on the pinion shaft, and the engagement may be automatically operated by a spring. The opposite stile may be provided with friction rollers, or with a rack and pinion, with or without stop devices.
