Telescopic and expanding tables.-In an extensible table with top parts 1, 2 mounted on slides &c. 3, 4 and connected together by screw and nut mechanism 5, 6, a loose extension leaf 11 which can be automatically raised into position or removed and stowed below the parts 1, 2 is provided with bars 12 which, in the position shown, rest on cam blocks 14 attached to the slides 4 and extend beyond the leaf 11 so as to engage frictionally the underside of the top part 2. When the screw 5 is turned so as to move the part 2 to the right, this frictional engagement carries the leaf 11 with the part 2 and separates it from the dowels 15 carried by the part 1. A further movement of the screw brings a projection 16 on the underside of the leaf against a projection 17 on the slide 3 and separates the leaf from the part 2. The leaf then pivots on the blocks 14 and the right-hand end drops into the recess 8<x> of a cut-away part 8 of each slide 3. The screw 5 is then reversed until the parts 1, 2 meet. As the blocks 14 move away from under the inclines 13 of the leaf bars 12, the leaf 11 drops and is stowed in the recesses 8, 10 cut in the slides 3, 4.
