One leaf j of the upper hinge for each sash is bent over and riveted to the sash chain k<1> while a leaf of the lower hinge slides in a vertical groove in the framing. The swinging side of each sash is retained normally by a removable head and can be attached, for sliding, to the second chain k<2>, by shooting bolts such as s into the links of the chain.
