Doors, windows, &c.-A folding door or window is constructed in two or more parts, so that the wind pressure thereon is balanced, and draught is minimized when the door or window is opened. The part A, Fig. 1, approximately two-sevenths of the entire width, is hinged to the frame C, and the part B is hinged to the part A by double or folding- screen hinges, and has a removable bolt E sliding in a slot F in the head-rail of the frame. The outer row of hinges is preferably midway between the inner row and the bolt E. Two sets of such doors may be combined to form double doors, and the doors may be hinged to open one way only. Fig. 4 shows a self-closing door, the bolt E<1> of which engages a slotted block C', which may be rotated to allow the bolt and door to be removed. The weight may also travel on an inclined plane or rails. Fig. 6 shows the application to a window, provided with balance weights G<3>. Fig. 7 shows a modification hinged at the lower end and with a single weight. Draught may be prevented at the joints by making the edges concave and convex, or by means of covering-strips. Air buffers may be fitted, and the windows may be hinged as casements.
