Dark slides.-A plate-holder is constructed so that the plates may be transferred from a lighttight envelope into the holder, without opening up the frame of the holder, and after exposure, transferred back to the envelope. The receiving- shell 3 of the holder 2 is secured by end bolts so as to leave a space 8 all round for the insertion of the envelope over the receiving-end 6. The plate passes into the plate-shifter 10, which slides in the shell 3 and retains the plate in position by the spring ends 12. After exposure, the envelope is replaced, and the shifter is moved by the slide piece 19 through the action of the levers 15 17 pivoted at 16, thereby moving the plate so that it can be gripped at the recess 7 and withdrawn in its envelope. The plate-shifter has a resilient tongue 14, or other equivalent means for preventing the envelope from catching the shifter and the spring lip extension 21 prevents it from catching the lever 15. As a modification, the ordinary back of a camera may be constructed to perform the function of the holder.
