Abstract

19,010. Brooks, A. A., and Watson, G. A. Sept. 3. Cameras; dark slides ; change-boxes; envelopes for packing or storing plates and the like.-Plates or films are introduced into a camera or dark slide in an envelope which is then withdrawn, and after exposure the plate or film is passed into a receiviugchamber which is adapted to contain a number of plates or films, and from which they may be transferred to another receptacle if desired. Fig. 2 is a section of the dark slide, and Fig. 6 a section of the envelope. The envelope is made in two parts, one of which 23 is open at one end, which is made light-tight by a cap-piece 26 which is doubled on itself and has a long tab 27 as shown. The whole envelope with the plate 24 is passed through the opening 4, which is lined with plush or velvet, into the groove 1. The slide 6 forms the back of this groove, and the envelope is held against this slide by a bar 12 and by hooks 15, all of which are held by springs. The tab 27 is then pulled, and thus the plate 24 and case 23 are lifted from the cap 26, the outer part of which is held by the points of the hooks 15. The case 23 is then pushed back, and slides between the cap 26 and the hooks 15. A piece may be notched away from the case 23 to allow the hooks to engage the plate or film, or they may be allowed to tear the paper when the two parts 26, 23 of the envelope are withdrawn, leaving the plate or film ready for exposure. After exposure, the slide 6 is withdrawn and the spring bar 12 and the hooks 15 cause the plate to pass into the chamber 20. This is adapted to hold a number of plates. If desired, the plates may be transferred to a larger receptacle by fitting such to the back of the dark slide and withdrawing the slide 18. The arrangement may be used as part of a camera instead of as a dark slide.
