Abstract

Elastic-fluid turbines.-An elasticfluid turbine of the impact-wheel type has side buckets F, F<1>, F<2>, Fig. 5, increasing in size towards the periphery, and also peripheral buckets G, Fig. 8. The shaft A is in two parts, each provided with an end disk a, Fig. 2, between which the wheel B is bolted. The casing is in two parts C, C' connected by flanges c, and provided in each part with steam chests D, E to which steam or other fluid passes by inlets d, e, and from which the fluid passes through nozzles f to the inner side of each bucket in the ring of buckets F. It then exhausts at the outer side of each bucket and passes through passages f<1> to the second ring of buckets F<1>, then through passages f<2> to the outer ring of buckets F' and finally through passages l to the outer sides of the peripheral buckets G and to the central exhaust passage O connected to the condenser P or opening to the atmosphere. As each side of the wheel is acted upon by the steam, end thrust is avoided. Oblique partitions k, l<1> are placed respectively in the passages f<1> f<2>, l to direct the fluid at the required angle to the buckets. Each nozzle f is provided with a separate valve n so that the steam supply may be regulated withcut throttling.
