Abstract

20,310. Scheuber, G. March 8, [date applied for under Patents Act, A.D. 1901] Steam &c. turbines. -The turbines may be used as centrifugal fans, and are driven by repeatedly passing the fluid through the turbine wheel by means of laterally - arranged pipes and chambers. The turbine wheel A, Figs. 1 and 3, is mounted on a shaft a<1>, and the ring-shaped casing B contains two fixed rings of guide vanes E, F between which the wheel vanes rotate. The casing is also divided into compartments of increasing size by approximately-radial partitions d, so that motive fluid from the inlet b passes through the guide vanes and wheel vanes in one compartment and then returns to the inlet side through a passage b<3>, and so on to the exhaust b<1>. The turbine may be of the parallel-flow type or duplex type, or may be compounded. A reversible turbine has a ring of doubly-curved vanes a, Fig. 9, and, by adjusting a ring-shaped valve b<5>, the steam is admitted into either the inner ring E or the outer ring of guide-vanes, as required.
