Abstract

9496. Bohne, O., and Herrmann, J. G. May 5. Polishing, french and like.-In preparing wood for polishing, the pores are.filled by rubbing a dry powder on the wood, and binding the powder in the pores by moistening. The powder consists of an insoluble substance such as plaster of paris, brick dust, clay, &c. with a binding-material such as powdered animal or vegetable glue, but preferably dextrin ; potassium bichromate may be added to render the composition insoluble in alcohol. After the application of the powder, the surface of the wood is moistened with a solution of shellac and alcohol.
