Liquid from the sewer B, Fig. 1, is supplied to the tank A through the branches D, D. Solids settle into the pipe C and can be removed through the valve J, while liquid rises in the tank A and through the outlet F, and is distributed over the bed H by a sloping perforated plate G. The apparatus shown in Fig. 2 is similar, but the tank M is at the side of the bed L and the sewage passes through a pipe S to a tipping-bucket K bracketted to the side of the tank. According to the Provisional Specification, the tanks may be formed of earthenware or other pipes, and the sewage may be passed from the tank into channels which distribute it over the bed.
