Abstract

12,797. Ramsden, T. H. June 21. Sewage and foul waters, treating ; settling ; straining ; tanks for.-Sewage or like liquid is supplied to a trough 9, the inner side of which is stepped to form adjustable weirs, so that a uniform flow of sewage passes over on to the sloping roof 7 and thence on to the roof 8 and into the interior of the tank. Solid matter is intercepted by screens 20, 22, suspended under the ends of the roofs 7, 8, and is collected into the sloping sludge channel 14. The liquid is allowed to stand for a time and then passes to the outlet pipe 17 through a screen 21 suspended from a sub-roof 19. The floor of the tank slopes towards the sludge channel and also in the direction of its outlet end. The screens are of coco fibre, open canvas, or wire, and have a fibre fringe 26. Additional screens 23, 24, 25 may be used. The Provisional Specification states that, if of wire, the screens are formed of vertical strands semicircular in cross-section with the convex face set away from the sludge channel so as to facilitate self-cleansing. Also that a tank of smaller size, used, for instance, for trade effluent, may have the roof formed by a single slope, and that the flow through such a tank may be continuous.
