Steam receivers ; partitions, internal.-The spaces below the furnaces in which the low-lying water is usually dead is divided from the main water space of the boiler and utilized as a steam receiver. It is connected to the steam space by suitable pipes or passages. Fig. 3 shows the arrangement as applied to a marine boiler. By means of the plates d, d<1>, d<2>, the portion of the boiler below the furnaces a is formed into the steam space e, which may be connected by pipes g with the usual steam space or by a partition such as h. The dividing- plates may be in one piece or, as shown in Fig. 4, formed in segments capable of introduction through the man-hole t. In each case, the lower steam space from end to end of the boiler is transverse of the boiler between the curved surfaces.
