Abstract
26,626. Hagans, C. Dec. 20. Superheaters, s t e a m.- Relates to directly-heated superheaters of the kind in which the furnace gases are tempered by passing through tubes surrounded by boiler water. According to the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the superheater a is fitted with a cooling-chamber d, traversed by tubes g through which the gases from the furnace b are passed. Water enters the chamber d through an opening e, and escapes through an opening f. Fig. 3 shows a modification applicable to locomotive, portable, and other boilers having a firebox. The gases for the superheater are passed through tubes 2 fitted in a pocket formed in the first length of the barrel. A similar arrangement is shown in Fig. 5.
