21,902. Martyn, D. L. Oct. 18. Steam - generator f u r - naces.-Relates to multitubular boilers of the type in which a flat-sided shell with a projecting steam space A is traversed by inclined cross-tubes H and horizontal longitudinal tubes J. Formed in one with the furnace which extends the whole length beneath the shell is a flue or combustion chamber N, which is connected. by the horizontal tubes J with the smoke-box M. The inclined tubes H open into flues K, L, which lead into the smoke-box or uptake. The furnace may be encased in brickwork, or it may be enclosed in a feedwater tank C as shown. To prevent generation of steam in the tank C, tubes G, G are fitted in it through which air can pass from one end to the other for cooling purposes. The fire-door may be at either end.
