Elastic-fluid turbines. -A throttle valve for use with governing- mechanism for steam turbines of the kind described in Specification No. 10,578, A.D. 1904,isshown in Fig. 2. The throttle valve 6 regulates the steam supply from the channel 2 to the nozzle passage 3, and to increase its sensitiveness, instead of it being directly actuated by the governor as described in the above - mentioned Specification, it is actuated by a piston 8. The piston has two diameters, and its top and bottom surfaces are exposed to boiler pressure through passages 10. The central annular surface works in a chamber b, and, by means of a pilot valve 17 connected to the governor, the chamber is opened to boiler pressure from beneath the piston or to an exhaust chamber 25 above the piston. The pilot valve is balanced by means of an auxiliary piston 21 or by a weight.
