Abstract

20,846. Goodson, J. Sept. 19. Pressure-regulating valves; special materials for valves.-Gas is supplied at constant pressure to a varying number of burners, notwithstanding varying pressures in the supply pipe, by an automatic valve b, Fig. 1, which controls an inlet c. The valve is actuated by a piston g subject to gas pressure, gas being delivered by a passage k to the outlet. The spaces above the piston and below the valve b are open to atmospheric pressure through passages j, i. The latter passage may bo omitted and holes made in a cover h. A stop f is provided in the lower cap. The piston and valve are in one and are made preferably of aluminium. In a modification, Fig. 3, gas enters at a<1> and passes through perforations g<2> in a hollow valve b to the underside and is delivered at a<2>. Although the piston g and valve b are of equal diameter, the excess of pressure on the solid piston actuates the valve b so as to throttle the inlet. A screw plug n serves to fix the size of the inlet. A stop m prevents the valve from closing entirely.
