Abstract

1311. Castelnau, M. Feb. 9, 1904, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Lubricating cylinders and pistons of engines or motors. The fixed piston a, Fig. 1, is provided with inlet and outlet ducts b, c, connected by passages d, e, with annular grooves f, g, formed in the surface of the piston between three series of 'packing-rings h, i, j. The inlet groove f, to which lubricant is supplied by any suitable pump, lies between the pressure chamber m and the outlet-groove g, so that the lubricant circulates with little loss. The grooves f, g are never uncovered by the moving cylinder k. Fig. 2 shows the application to a moving piston k. The ducts b, c are formed in the fixed cylinder a, and communicate with the grooves f, g in the piston by a number of orifices d, e which are never uncovered by the piston. Grooves may be made in the wall of the cylinder extending obliquely from the orifices d, e.
