Abstract

28,381. Sichelschmidt, H. Dec. 28, A.D. 1903, [date applied for under Patents Act, A.D. 1901]. Copying-presses; damping copying-paper.-Relates to machines for copying letters, documents, &c. The copying-paper is fed from a roll n between two endless bands passing over rollers h, i, k, e, d, g, and f, a, b, c, respectively, between which the papers to be copied are also carried. In order to secure a continuous operation when thick copying. paper is used, three counter pressure rollers a, b, c and two damping-rollers d, e are used, simultaneous damping and copying being effected between the rollers c, e, and drying between the rollers e, b, while another superimposed copy is produced by again damping and copying between the rollers b, d and finally drying between the rollers a, d. For many operations in which thinner copying-paper is used, the rollers a, d may be dispensed with, once copying being sufficient. The roller e is damped by a roller t revolving in a tank s of water, and the roller d may be damped by a similar roller. The rollers a, b, c are in fixed bearings, while the rollers d, e are adjustably mounted in order to produce the desired pressure at the points of contact.
