16,475. Ross, W., and Ross, T. July 26. Actuating self-closing lift valves. - In valve-discharge water-waste preventers, the ordinary valve B, at the end of the down pipe D, is raised by an ordinary suction lifter E connected to the lever G by a rod F. The lever G may be formed with a handle or may be actuated by means of a chain &c. It is moved so as to bring the lifter E into contact with the valve B, which is then raised by the weight K. Water gradually penetrates between the adhering surfaces of the lifter and valve and causes the latter to drop.
