Abstract

1428. Duckett & Son, J., Duckett, G. F., and Bullock, J. W. Jan. 23. Latrines; water-water preventers siphon-discharge. Relates to latrines or multiple closets with hand flushing-cisterns, to the pull-handles of flushing- cisterns, and to the method of lifting the plungers in such cisterns. The latrines are flushed by raising the dead weight valve L by means of the pull M, so causing the water to pass into the siphon I and the cistern G to discharge. The water passes down the fall pipe F, which has iuternal projections N, and causes air from the air chamber D to pass up the air extractor pipe E until a vacuum is formed in the air chamber. The contents of the basins A and pipes B are then siphoned through the trap C, and discharged. Siphon action from the basins and pipes is stopped when the water in the cistern descends below a pipe depending from the pipe E, but the siphon I operates until the cistern is emptied and the basins and pipes are recharged. A stop tap may be fixed in the air-extractor pipe, if required to empty the closets when not in use. The pull handle Q, Fig. 5, is in two parts, separated by the rubber ring R secured by the pin S and nut T. The plunger f, Fig. 7, is attached near the top to the lever b by bifurcated arms c.
