Abstract

28,461. May, T. W. Dec. 27. Water-waste preventers, valve-discharge. Water is admitted from the service pipe 13, Fig. 3, to the chamber 14, and passes through a hole 19 of adjustable aperture, closing the piston valve 6 upon its seating 11. At the same time, water passes through the hole 18, rises in the pipe 2, Fig. 1, and charges the cistern 1, the air contained in which is compressed in the upper part. The apparatus is operated by raising the handle 39 and rod 30, until by means of the arm 28 and spindle 26 the hole 35 of the plug valve 25 registers with the tube 36, whereby water behind the valve 6 is allowed to escape into the flushing-pipe 10. Water from the tank 1 then forces back the piston valve 6 to the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 3, and passes by the pipe 10 in a flush to the closet basin. When the handle is released, the spring 31 closes the valve 25, and the water from the chamber 14, passing through the hole 19, closes the valve 6. A spiral spring 12 is fixed in the pipe 10 and closes together during a flush.
