Abstract

15,045. Lake, H. H., [Arkell, W. J., and Arkell, B.]. July 5. Packing-materials.-Relates to a paper lining for packing such articles as sugar, salt, flour, &c. The paper is covered with tight creases or wrinkles, formed in the paper when it is wet, which enable it to stretch one-third of its length under tensile strain to conform to the irregularities of the receptacle, and to be shipped in bales without injury. In Fig. 2, the edges of a sheet of the paper are shown applied to a barrel, the edges being gummed or otherwise attached at 3 to form a tube 1. The bottom of the barrel may be lined by a piece 5, the edges of which embrace the lining 1. The upper part 4 of the lining is turned outwards while the barrel is being filled, and is afterwards turned inwards over the material enclosed, with or without the addition of an additional sheet at the top.
