CHARLES FRANCIS JENKINS, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, ASSIGNOR TO SINGLE SERVICE PACKAGE CORPORATION OF AMERICA, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
PAPER RECEPTACLE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES FRANCIS JENKINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at W'ashington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper Receptacles;
- and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to spirally wound paper vessels, and has for its object the production of such a vessel which will be sufliciently cheap to come within the limits of cost, and yet at the same time will have a top closure capable of sifting the contents out of the vessel.
\Vith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel details of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter disclosed and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in which like numerals refer to like parts in all the views :Figure l is a longitudinal sectional view of a completed vessel before the teats are cut to form the sifting openings. Fig. 2 is a detail sectional View showing the said teats after they are cut; and Fig. 3 a top )Ian View of the vessel after the teats have em out.
1 represents the body of the vessel which is preferably made of three layers of spirally wound material; 2 a closing disk for the bottom of the vessel provided with the flange 3; 4 a closing disk for the to of the vessel provided with a flange 5; and 6 a depression in the top disk 4 in which may be impressed or embossed any suitable matter, such as directions to cut off the teats with a sharp knife when it is desired to sift the material out of the vessel.
7 represents teats or raised portions formed by forcing'upwardly the material of the disk 4 in a suitab e press, and which are designed to be cut off wlth asharp knifeand thereby form sifting openings 8 through which the material contained in the vessel may be discharged.
9 represents a suitable water proof lining, as parafiin for the. vessel, and 10 and 11 re resent paraflin strips extending around e bottom of the vessel which are formed by Specification of Letters Patent.

pieces to form the desired container, and
then passes under suitable presses which first insert the disk 4. and force it entirely throughout the length of the tube to the other end when it is stopped flush with said last mentioned end to form the top closure. The package is then filled with the contents which it is desired to have it contain, and the disk 2 is then forced in over the top of the contents through the same end through which the disk 1 passed. The end closures are securely fastened in by glue or paraflin, and the package is complete. It will thus be seen that all the operations being carried out by machinery the package can be made at a very low cost.
WVhat I claim is 1. In a paper package the combination of a body, and an end closure for the same provided with hollow teats adapted to be out oil to form sifting openings, substantially as described.
2. In a paper package the combination of a body and an end closure provided with a flange secured to the inside of said body, and said flan e provided with teats adapted to be out ofl to form sifting openings, substantially as described.
3. In a paper package the combmation of a spirally wound body portion; an nverted cup shaped bottom closure; and an inverted cup shaped top closure provided with hollow teats adapted to be cut ofi' to form s1ft1ng openings, substantially as described.
4:. In a paper package the combination of a body portion; a flanged disk flush with and closing the top of said body portion with its flange inside said body portlon, and provided with hollow teats adapted to be cut off to form sifting openings; a similar disk clos ing the bottom' of said body portion; and water repellent materlal surround ng said body portion, substantially as descr bed.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature,
in presence 0 two witnesses.
