CLOSURE For. PAPER. PACKAGES.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ROBERT F. ABNOTT, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Upper Montclair, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Closures for Paper Packages, of. which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being hadto the accompanying drawings, forming part of thisspecification, in which the figure is a longitudinal section showing one form of my invention.-
My invention'relates to closing the ends of a paper packages and is designed to provide a simple, inexpensive and strong closure structure which will reduce liability of injury to the end portion of the package.
In the drawings, 2 represents a paper carton or package body, preferably cylindrical in form, and which may be built up of paper plies, wound on a mandrel,- and cemented with paraffin 'or in any other desirable manner. At the bottom of this body, a flanged cap 3, is pushed into it with the flange projectingoutwardly and terminating inside the end of the body. This is preferably secured by. cementing, using paraflin or other cement. 'A separate flat disk 4 of paper or any other desirable material isthen slipped in and rests on the end of the cap flange, this disk fitting snugly to the interior diameter of the carton body.
At the top of the package, I preferably use an open top cap 5 having a large central hole, and also the top closure cap 6, bothof these being flanged and fitting inside of each other with the flanges projecting outwardly. The flanges are preferably arranged so that their edges are flush, and may bemounted in place. Onthem is seated the flat disk 7 which fits snugly within the inner surface of the carton body.
The caps and disks are preferably pushed into the cylinder far enough to leave a portion of its edge portion projecting beyond ,the outer disks 4 and 7 and then spinning against blows on the edge of the package Specification of Letters Patent.

and prevents breakage or injuring of the edge, which would tend to produce leakage in case the package contains liquid.
Many changes may be made in the form of the package, the material of the caps, etc, without departing from my invention.
I claim:
1. A paper carton or package having a flanged-cap slipped within its end portion, and a flat disk seated on the outwardly projecting flange of the cap, the edge portion of the cylinder being forced in against said disk to hold said parts, substantially as described.
2. A paper package or carton having a plurality of flanged caps slipped within one end and nesting in each other with their flanges projecting outwardly, and a flat disk seated against the edge of the flange of the caps and fitting within the tubular body, the edge portionof the cylinder being forced 'in against said disk to hold said parts, substantially as described.
3. Apaper carton or package of cylindrical shape having a flanged cap within its end portion, and a flat disk seated on the outwardly projecting flange of the cap, the end portion of the body of the carton being bent back upon itself and forced against the disk to hold the disk between the flange of the cap and the turned in edge of the body portion; substantially as described.
4. A paper carton or package having a cylindrical body portion, a flanged cap seated' within the end of the body portion, said cap having an opening therethrough, a second cap having an outwardly extending flange seated within the flange of the first cap, the outer edges of the flanges of both caps being on a line with each other, and a flat disk seated on the edges of both caps and fitted within the body portion, the edge of the body portion being bent back upon itself and forced against the outer face of said cap so that the cap is retained between said'bent edge of the body portion and the two flanges of the caps; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand. v
