14,355. Gersabeck, E. June 25. Carburetting.-An apparatus a for carburetting air, for use in signalling and other purposes, is fixed or rotatable and comprises a series of plates or trays b provided with apertures c. If the apparatus is of circular cross-section, the apertures are arranged alternately at the centres and circumferences of the plates ; if the apparatus is rectangular, the apertures are arranged alternately at opposite sides of the plates. An absorbent and permeable substance d is arranged to extend into a hydrocarbon liquid placed in the lower part e of the apparatus. Air is pumped in a tube f, which may be above or below the liquid level, and, in traversing a zig-zag course through the apparatus, becomes intimately mixed with particles of liquid held by the absorbent material. To assist in saturating the material, tubes g may connect the upper and lower parts of the apparatus and thereby ensure, through the agency of air pressure or capillary action, a continuous supply of liquid to the upper part of the apparatus.
