Abstract

Culverts. - T h e permanently - submerged portion of the cribwork or the like for use in the construction o f culverts i s composed of timbers, while the remainder is formed of artificial-stone or cement w o r k previously moulded, preferably in the form of timbers, the cribwork being preferably built afloat and sunk in position. The timbers B, Fig. 1, and the concrete members C may be notched so as to interlock with one another, and may be secured together by iron rods E passing through openings in the intersecting portions of the members. The cribwork may be filled with earth, and sheathing H, Fig. 4, may be secured to the upper portion by bolts G cemented in recesses in the members C.
